“I want to ship my instrument to you for repair. What are your procedures?”

“I saw this cool modification on the internet that will convert my Moog Rogue into a 128 voice polyphonic workstation! Can you do that for me?”

“I have a completely dead, rusted instrument that's been stored in a tool shed for 50 years. Can you restore it? I'll email you a picture of it!”

“Why do I have to set up an appointment?”

“How much will you charge to tune my Rhodes / Wurlitzer / Clavinet / Yamaha Electric Grand?”

“I have this cool old synthesizer that was built under contract from a major manufacturer that has been out of business since the last millennium. You can fix that, right?”

“Do you repair or purchase acoustic pianos, home organs, pump organs or amateur / beginners instruments?”

“Do you service only vintage instruments?”

“Ok, so whats the deal?”

“I want to ship my instrument to you for repair. What are your procedures?”

AVK will only accept instruments that are shipped in an ATA flight case. We will not accept any instrument shipped in a cardboard box, no matter how well-packed it is.

AVK will not accept any instrument shipped by Fed Ex, UPS or the USPS. Instruments MUST be shipped by a proper airfreight forwarding company such as Rock-It Cargo or Soundmoves. Heavy instruments such as Rhodes pianos must still be shipped in an ATA flight case, as even the protective outer case of a Rhodes will not withstand the rigors of airfreight.

Fed Ex, UPS and the USPS will not accept instruments as heavy as a Rhodes or Wurlitzer, and you can be assured that any of the aforementioned shippers will, without question, damage or destroy your instrument. AVK can not guarantee the condition, tuning, or calibration of any instrument that is shipped, even by a proper freight forwarder. Any damage claims must be taken up with the freight forwarder.

AVK will not ship any purchased instruments by Fed Ex, UPS or the USPS. We will only ship instruments in an ATA flight case, and by an approved freight forwarder.

“I saw this cool modification on the internet that will convert my Moog Rogue into a 128 voice polyphonic workstation! Can you do that for me?”

Don't believe everything you see on that interweb thingy. AVK will not take responsibility for damage caused by non-approved modifications.

“I have a completely dead, rusted instrument that's been stored in a tool shed for 50 years. Can you restore it? I'll email you a picture of it!”

Possibly not. The restorability of an instrument can only be determined by actually having it in our shop to examine. We can not give estimates based on an emailed description and/or a photo. Please contact us to set up an appointment.

“Why do I have to set up an appointment?”

AVK is owned and operated by a professional touring technician. If he is on tour, he may not be available to work on your instrument. The best way to communicate with us is by email. This will guarantee that our technician can contact you.

“How much will you charge to tune my Rhodes / Wurlitzer / Clavinet / Yamaha Electric Grand?”

Prices vary depending on the model and condition of your instrument. If the instrument has not been to our shop previously, chances are good that it will need some restoration work before tuning.

It is also suggested that extremely heavy instruments such as the Yamaha Electric Grand be tuned at the location where the instrument will be used- AVK can not guarantee the tuning of the instrument after it has been moved. AVK can send a technician to your location for an additional charge.

Please note that many Electric Grands are due for a complete string replacement, as many of these instruments are 35 years old. Strings this old will not hold their tuning. Also, if the piano has not been tuned in many years, which is usually the case, extra time and work will be necessary to stretch the strings back into usable condition.

Please email us to set up an appointment to inspect your instrument to determine if any additional work will be necessary to insure it's proper tuning.

“I have this cool old synthesizer that was built under contract from a major manufacturer that has been out of business since the last millennium. You can fix that, right?”

Certain instruments are simply not repairable. Moog, for instance, contracted out the construction of certain models (the Satellite and MinitMoog, for example, were actually built by Thomas Organs, who has been out of business for decades) and parts are simply not available.

AVK will happily offer to purchase your albatross from you, and add it to our large inventory of parts machines. AVK does have a large collection of instruments from which we can pull parts, perhaps one of the largest in the region, but if parts are not available for your instrument, they're simply not available. We will leave no stone unturned in our search for parts for your unusual instrument, just please consider that that some instruments are simply not repairable.

“Do you repair or purchase acoustic pianos, home organs, pump organs or amateur / beginners instruments?”

No. We do, however, repair, sell and purchase used professional instruments, in any condition. This includes professional electro-mechanical instruments such as Rhodes electric pianos, Wurlitzer electric pianos, Yamaha Electric Grand pianos, Hohner Clavinets and Pianets, professional synthesizers of any age, portable "combo" organs (the variety that were popular in the 1960's and early 1970's), electronic pianos from that same era (1960's through the 1970's), Mellotrons- any professional instruments.

“Do you service only vintage instruments?”

AVK also services and sells newer instruments, and we carry a huge inventory of parts for both classic and recent instruments. We can perform all of the service needs of newer instruments such as internal battery replacement, calibration and broken key replacement, and usually with a far shorter turn-around time than most general repair shops, as we specialize in only professional keyboards and related equipment.

AVK also specializes in hardware sampler support for the professional touring industry, such as hard drive installations and RAM upgrades. Please see our TOUR SUPPORT page for more details.
